About. Dilyana Tankova

Dilyana Tankova is a Bulgarian-born artist based in London whose practice spans photography, historical photographic processes, research-led practice, and writing. Working across analogue and digital media, she explores memory, heritage, landscape, and ecological belonging through long-term projects that draw upon personal archives, folklore, family histories, and material experimentation. Her work explores the relationships between people and place, considering how memory, cultural knowledge, and collective histories are preserved, transformed, and transmitted across generations. Through photography, writing, and historical processes such as salt printing, cyanotype, large format photography she engages with questions of home, identity, cultural continuity, and the material nature of the photographic image. Recent research has expanded towards the relationship between ecology and cultural memory, exploring forests, landscapes, and archives as living repositories of knowledge, history, and belonging.
